Surprising Nobody, Captain Americ Returns.

I mean, duh. Of course he's coming back. His movie is out next year. What did you think was gonna happen? President Obama puts on the red, white and blue pyjamas to face off with the Red Skull (technically the Red Stomach the last time we saw him) and the Dark Avengers, allowing himself to appear unmasked upon at least thirty Marvel covers a month (excluding variants) for the next two years? Cap from the 40's decides to stay in this time? Who cares if we saw the rigor mortis of the body, Steve's creepy open eye staring accusingly at us, the uncaring comic book community. He's always been meant to come back.

Bucky however, hasn't proven himself unworthy of the mantle (so far), he hasn't gone loony, killed innocent civilians, urinated on the flag, or been tortured and killed by the Red Tum Tum. Or even crapped on about the land of the free ad infinitum. Theres no reason for him to give up the mantle, unless he doesn't want it.

The whole series (50+ issues and counting) has been one of my favourites from Marvel in recent years. The actual character has always been a bit too patriotic for my liking. Cap was definitely in need of a makeover before this volume (not counting Ultimate Cap) , and Brubaker, Epting and co. have risen to the challenge.

How could they not bring back one of comics' oldest characters? Do you think we've seen the last of Bruce Wayne, either? Regardless of the fact that the comic only really started selling around the exact point that Steve bit the dust, this storyline has been in the works for much of the last four years, and now begins the payoff. Knowing Brubaker, it should be worth it.
