Watchmen LectureTour Hits Quality Comics

You've all read the book, you've seen the movie (and then those of you who didn't read the book before seeing the movie came and devoured all of the available copies in Perth), and you've all painted yourselves blue and casually strolled around your neighbourhood with your blue willy hanging flacidly to the left. Oh wait, that was just me.

Anywho, lookit:

This is possibly nay probably the coolest appearance we've ever hosted in store. Its definitely the ONLY appearance I've hosted in store, and it beats the heck out of a Kurt Busiek signing I went to a long time ago. If you've never heard of Jeffrey, also look here for further evidence of his anti folk majesty (his comics look pretty good too!).

Okay, the doomsday clock is now officially ticking. Everyone be here at (just before) 5.00pm on 13th April 2009.

Hurm.

Blistering Barnacles!! Tintin comes to Quality Comics!

Item! Fans of the world famous intrepid reporter (although now that I think about it, I hardly ever saw him file a story) should be sure to come in to the store to check out our new range of official Tintin merchandise, all obtained from Australia's only official distributor.

Sure we have the books, everyone has the books, right? But not everyone has their grubby little mitts on the figurines, hmm, now, do they? Here's a sample for your greedy little eyes:

We currently have a selection of figures, two Snowy plushes, and a range of t-shirts sizes ranging from childrens to (ahem) large-ish sized blokes. The shirts look a little bit like this (actually, they look exactly like this:

The figures are disappearing fast, so hustle your little Bianca Castafiore butts into the shop before its too late. You'll feel like yelling "Thundering Typhoons!"

Crumbs! its late, gotta go,

Quality Keith.

Quality Comics is DEAD. Long Live Quality Comics

Hello Perth, welcome to the first ever post from the first ever blog for Perth's longest existing comic store, Quality Comics!

I know some of you will be puzzled to find that we are still open, after a tumultuous time at the end of 2008. I don't want to dwell on that (I do my dwelling elsewhere) other than to say that although it looked like the store would be closing Christmas eve 2008, uhh, it didn't.

It IS under new management, though. I am your guide, call me Quality Keith (although perhaps to my face you can just call me Keith). As the new owner of Quality Comics, I hereby vow to return the greatness of years gone by to the store. I am a lifetime comic fan (Spider-Man taught me to read at the age of 5), and this is really a dream opportunity for me. The premises are old, they need a lot of attention, we have no running water and lately I've caught the whiff of perhaps a dead hobo emanating from the back passages, but its MINE, and I do solemnly swear to do everything in my power to run the best damn funny book shop in town.

Its 2009. Time to re-evaluate just what a comics shop should be at the end of the first decade of the new millenium. Are comics for kids? Are 'graphic novels' just for arrogant adults? Is cosplay just for dubious forty four year old men with a preference for lycra? Are Marvel and DC the only comics companies that put out comic books? I say thee nay to all counts.

I say, come in to the all new Quality Comics and you will find a shop that looks much like it did before. Delve a little deeper however, and you start to notice that there aren't as many actual comic books (strangely called 'floppies' by some these days) on the shelves anymore. Gasp in amazement as you realize that those selfsame shelves are now full of hardcovers, trade paperbacks, graphic novels, comic digests, and sometimes the remains of a customers lunch.

I want to have a shop that is continually evolving, not showy ways, but ways that allow us to constantly evaluate our range of titles and our level of service. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please don't hesitate to tell me. If you haven't been in for a while, please drop in and have a look at how we're doing. I really appreciate those that have stayed with us through the last 5 months when they could have easily gone elsewhere. I ask others to not judge the name of the store too harshly when thinking about what has gone before. The name may be the same, but everything else has changed, and we would be honoured if you would join us on our exciting new journey.

Thank you, goodnight farewell and adios amigos and remember to check back for news, reviews and just general shenanigans often.

Quality Keith
